Living…

Heyyo guys! It’s been long since I last posted, isn’t it? Well, here I am! And this is something I have been working on for quite some time now. This is the story of my latest post on Instagram. So if you aren’t following me there, check out #samsmythe or @samsmythe0010 right away!

So there is a place I like to go to once in a while, and my last visit sparked some pretty deep thoughts…

What is the one thing you want at the end of each day? The answer differs from person to person, but the general idea remains the same. Some peace, some tranquility that quietly pats your back and says, “You did well.”

Isn’t that the ultimate wish of every living being on this planet? But then, it depends on how you define ‘living’. For me, living is being able to listen to your heartbeats in those few seconds; not exactly all the time, but in a few moments when you feel like shutting your mind off and letting gravity do its thing. Those very moments when you don’t feel fired up and energetic about doing what you are supposed to be doing; those moments when you feel like slipping away from the rush and noise and quietly sit under a tree at the bank of a gurgling river and listening to the birds chirp in the sunset- those moments are the ones that make you a truly living person.

And you can see many such living people gathered on the Ghats of Hooghly River among the others who are just there to click pics, pose for some more and just have a good time- with or without company. Birds chirp here, day in and day out, creating incomparable music with the sun’s trajectory. The river joins in the pleasant antakshari with happy laps at the sand and stones waiting at the bank. As the sun’s warm ‘good night’ paints the river in shimmering orange and lavender, there is something in the air that reminds one of the evergreen melodies.

And that is exactly what I lived. ‘Abhi na jao chhod kar’ resonates through space as leaves and little flowers break away from the trees, float in the air, dancing to the unique tune and reach home. On the bridge, speeding vehicles cast some lights and soon- too soon- the river starts singing a lullaby, subtly reminding the engaged audience that it’s time to go back now.
